Local governments in the Central Okanagan will be reducing services over the Christmas holidays. Here's what you need to know.
City Halls in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country and Peachland will be closed from Dec. 25 through to Jan. 2.
“City Hall tends to be quiet over the holidays with few public requests and with many partner organizations we work with also closed during this time,” City of Kelowna human resources director Stu Leatherdale said in a news release.
“Due to the minimal business activity, reducing hours makes sense and is economical for the city. The time off helps our staff achieve a balanced quality of life by enjoying being with their families. Staff use their vacation days or hours from other earned leave banks for closure days beyond statutory holidays.”
Garbage collectors shift their collection dates as well. Monday pickups will remain the same but the Tuesday through Friday collection days will shift by one day to Wednesday through Saturday for two weeks. The normal collection schedule returns Jan. 7.
