People who have documents piling up in their basements will benefit from the annual Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers fundraiser.

The Shred Event, which encourages residents to bring in their boxes and bins full of papers for shredding, takes place May 15, according to a Crime Stoppers press release.

The fundraiser will be in the parking lot of the Regional District building at 1450 KLO Rd. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Safety protocols will be in place due to COVID-19.

There will be signage on site directing drivers to the drop off point.

Crime Stoppers volunteers will remove the boxes from vehicles and place them in bins that will be taken directly to the on-site shredder.

The organization is asking for minimum donations of $5 per box and cash, credit, or debit will be accepted.

All proceeds will help fund the activities of the Crime Stoppers programs in the Central Okanagan.
