Police search for youth suspected of drunken rampage in Vancouver cemetery

VANCOUVER - Police in Vancouver are asking the public for any help as they look for the perpetrators of what investigators say was a drunken rampage in the city's oldest cemetery.

Police say dozens of headstones and a pagoda were tipped over or damaged in the part of the cemetery that has a large number of Asian and Jewish graves.

Beer bottles and cans lay strewn about the area.

Police say it doesn't appear the vandals were targeting any ethnic group and the damage to Jewish and Asian headstones looks coincidental.

Vancouver police Const. Lindsey Houghton says the damage shows a complete lack of respect to the deceased and their families.

Residents in the area say they heard a group of youths drinking in the area around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, but no one called police.
