Celebration planned as latest downtown Penticton revitalization project is completed

The revitalization project on Main Street's 300 block is expected to be completed Friday, June 15, 2018. The Downtown Penticton Association has a party planned for the event.

PENTICTON - There may be some rejoicing amongst merchants in the 300 block of Main Street this week as the latest stage of downtown revitalization comes to an end.

Downtown Penticton Association executive director Lynn Allin says construction is expected to be completed Friday, June 15, with a grand re-opening party scheduled.

The project is on time and on budget.

The celebration gets underway Friday, June 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Allin says there will be cake, a ribbon cutting ceremony, live music, open patios, wine tastings, and there are rumours of a “superhero” dropping in.

The latest stage of downtown redevelopment got underway in mid-February this year. The $2.2 million facelift included replacement of aging city underground infrastructure such as sewer and water mains, as well as new asphalt, raised intersections, sidewalks, curbs, street lighting, traffic signals and underground electrical services.

Downtown revitalization started on Martin Street’s 200 block in 2014. The 200 and 100 blocks of Main Street were also reconstructed prior to the 300 block in 2016.
