Lake Country RCMP had two of their vehicles damaged when they tried to stop a stolen car yesterday.

The incident started shortly before 7 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 18, when police spotted a green Pontiac car speeding on Highway 97, according to an RCMP media release. When the licence plate number was checked it came back as being from a car stolen in the Vernon area.

RCMP tried to stop the car on the highway but it turned into the dead-end Pollard Road. Two police vehicles were used to try to block the driver from exiting but the driver rammed the cars.

“Due to the dangerous nature of the suspect’s driving, the vehicle was not further pursued by police,” reads the RCMP release.

A short time later the vehicle was located in a field off Pollard Road. Despite calling in a dog team, police were not able to locate the suspect.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident,” Sgt. Jon Collins, Detachment Commander of the Lake Country RCMP, said in the release. “This driver recklessly put our officers, the public, and themselves in danger and we are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lake Country RCMP at 250-250-766-2288, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
