SILVERSTONE, England - Formula One leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari will start the British Grand Prix from pole position after mastering the rain-soaked track in a disrupted qualifying session Saturday.
It will be the first time Ferrari has started a race from the front of the grid since 2010, giving Alonso a chance to win at Silverstone on Sunday for a second successive year.
The Spaniard leads the championship by 20 points from Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who qualified in second place.
Michael Schumacher will start from third, two weeks after coming third at the European GP for his first podium finish since returning from retirement two years ago.
Qualifying was interrupted for more than 90 minutes after the circuit was deluged in water for a second straight day.
