Car chase, Kamloops standoff with RCMP leads to arrest

 A  Kamloops resident has been arrested after a a car chase and standoff at a Valleyview hotel occurred late last night.

On April 18, at 10:11 PM, Kamloops RCMP responded to a call in the North Shore area of Kamloops. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, sparking an extensive search by police officers, according to Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, with the Kamloops RCMP, in a news release.

"At approximately 11:50 p.m., RCMP members located the suspect vehicle at a motel in the Valleyview area. A large contingent of police officers converged on the motel and engaged in attempts to bring the matter to a peaceful resolution. Based on an assessment of risk, some individuals were required to be displaced from their motel rooms until the situation was resolved," according to the release.

"The situation was very visible and involved the use of loudhailers for communication. After approximately one hour of communication attempts by RCMP, the suspect surrendered and was brought into custody without further incident," according to the news release.

A 36-year-old Kamloops resident remains in custody pending further investigation. All information will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for assessment and laying of applicable charges.
