The Mayor of Kelowna is being called upon to cancel Jordan Peterson's May 26 event at the Prospera Place.

The plea was made in a petition launched by Brent Forder on change.org.

“Mr. Peterson's views directly jeopardize the safety and well-being of marginalized communities, especially women, transgender and gender non-conforming people,” the petition reads.

“Violence against women and 2SLGTBQIA+ folks starts with words so giving this man a platform to speak is directly impacting safety of marginalized communities.”

The event description on the Prospera Place website paints a different picture of the speaker.

“Jordan B. Peterson has taught mythology to lawyers, doctors and business people, consulted for the UN Secretary General, helped his clinical clients manage depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and schizophrenia, served as an adviser to senior partners of major Canadian law firms, and lectured extensively in North America and Europe,” it reads.

Tickets for the event have sold out through the Prospera Place website. A few can still be purchased through Ticketmaster, but they cost over $200 per seat.
