PENTICTON - An incredible tile mosaic 8 feet wide by 8 feet high made up of approximately 400 individual tiles painted by the local community  to commemorate Canada’s 150th  birthday will be unveiled at its new home on the wall of the Penticton Community Centre.

Where: Penticton Community Centre (outside under the Cleland Theatre sign)
When: Friday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m.
Who:    The public is welcome. Members of Council and the City’s Arts Committee will be on hand to help with the unveiling and answer questions about the mosaic

In 2015, the City of Penticton was accepted as a host community to participate in the Canada 150 Mosaic Tile Project to celebrate Canada’s 150 year anniversary. The goal of the program is to create approximately 150 mural involving all provinces and territories with each  mural representing a train car. The murals will be joined virtually to form a 365 meter long virtual “mosaic train” representing the foundation of the unification of Canada.  Penticton’s mural will remain in Penticton as a historical legacy to commemorate the anniversary (more background and a photo are attached).

“Community art is just one type of public art, and this mural is a wonderful example of how it can bring many individuals, families, and artists together to create something beautiful. We can all admire the iconic imagery of Penticton while celebrating our country’s milestone birthday at the same time.”  Allison Markin, Chair of the Arts, Creative and Cultural Innovations Committee
