Canada Post continues Kelowna weekend delivery in wake of heavy holiday demand

Don’t be surprised if you see a Canada Post worker at your mailbox this weekend, they’re working overtime to try and get holiday packages to their intended destinations — albeit much later than many expected.

“Our employees in Kelowna continue to work hard processing mail and parcels around the clock and delivering on weekends to meet the heavy demand,” Phil Legault with Canada Post media relations said in an email. “We have been running extra shifts in our plant operations every weekend since the pandemic began to keep items moving through the system, including three extra shifts just this past weekend.”

Legault said this will also be the first year locally that weekend operations and delivery are occurring after the holiday season, continuing for the next few weekends.

Legault said Canada Post employees worked incredibly hard to deliver record numbers of parcels to Canadians under difficult circumstances.

“While we don't provide volume numbers on a local level, we can share that during the two weeks leading up to and including Christmas Eve, our employees delivered just under 20 million parcels to Canadians,” he said.

“We are doing everything possible to continue (to) deliver items as quickly as possible, while maintaining important safety measures designed to keep employees and customers safe.”
