Camper van crashes through ice on Okanagan Lake at Kelowna boat launch

The boat ramp on Cook Road in Kelowna where a camper van went into Okanagan Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017.

KELOWNA - Police say no one was in a camper van when it broke through ice at a boat launch on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna this morning.

RCMP say they were called to the Cook Road boat launch around 6:45 a.m., Jan. 10, after receiving reports that a camper van was partially submerged in the lake.

They found a brown, 1984 Ford van about 25 meters off shore, according to a RCMP media release.

Rescuers from the Kelowna Fire Department searched and found no one inside the vehicle.

RCMP suspect the vehicle may have been set in motion so that it travelled down the boat ramp and crashed through the ice into the lake.

Firefighters check to make sure no one is in a camper van recovered from Okanagan Lake at the Cook Road boat launch in Kelowna, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017.
