The Okanagan film industry is off to a hot start this year with movies slated to start filming later this month.

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland said in a media release 2020 was a "stellar" year and the economic impact "surpassed all previous years."

There are multiple Hallmark and Lifetime productions planned for the Okanagan this year.

The first, is Christmas Au Pair starring Canadian actors Kayla Wallace (The Good Doctor, The Magician) and Jeremy Guilbaut (A Harvest Wedding, Summer in the Vineyard). Cameras start rolling Jan. 25.

Along with film projects, the production company Enderby Entertainment has opened a second production office in Kelowna.

"We've fortunately been able to see the growth of the Okanagan region," Enderby Entertainment CEO Rick Dugdale said in the release. "The groundwork for the large-scale film industry has been laid."

Summerland said he looks forward to major studios scouting the region this year for future projects.
