KAMLOOPS - Kamloops Arts Council is inviting fans of Kami the Fish to create something special to warm your heart - and your feet.
The Arts Council retweeted a post that called attention to an "emergency" - the absence of socks featuring the legendary Kamloops mascot.
Kami the Fish, also known as Kami the Trout and Kami the Spoolmak Trout, has been a Kamloops figure since the 1960s. Many Kamloops residents still have a place in their hearts for the gun-slinging fish.
When Justin Trudeau visited the city last week, he was offered a pair of socks with bighorn sheep and bears, but no trout.
Nancy Bepple pointed out in a tweet the "emergency" that the lack of Kami-themed apparel creates.
Terri Hadwin of the Arts Council of Kamloops shared the tweet, and called for action.
“She put forth into the universe that it’s an emergency... and I was kind of just putting it out there that theres a demand for it," Hadwin says.
If the idea comes to fruition, Hadwin says the socks could be sold at the Old Courthouse.
"If we did get somebody that had them premade, if they wanted to knit them or however they wanted to create them, we would sell them here for them," she says.
After about a year's absence from Twitter, Kami the Fish appears to be ready for the spotlight once again.
