KAMLOOPS - A downtown nightclub is denying allegations of negligence launched by a patron who was stabbed in the eye with a pool cue.
Thompson Rivers University student Abdulaziz Alhedaib was attacked by fellow student Yousef Almotairi at the Cactus Jacks Cabaret in November 2012.
Alhedaib filed a civil suit last month in B.C. Supreme Court against Cactus Jacks, alleging the nightclub was negligent because it didn't stop the two intoxicated men from drinking, didn't intervene in the confrontation, and it was understaffed.
But the nightclub says in response that it didn't over serve patrons alcohol, staffing levels were adequate, and employees could not have prevented the fight because it happened so suddenly.
Alhedaib also filed a suit against Almotairi, alleging the attack left him with traumatic brain injury, damage to his left eye and facial disfigurement.
None of the allegations filed in the civil suit have been proven in court, though Almotairi was sentenced to six months in jail last month for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
