KELOWNA – Two suspects remain at large in Kelowna after an armed robbery at a downtown jewelry store Tuesday evening.

The robbery happened just after 5 p.m. when police were called to the 1200 block of Cannery Lane. According to a release sent by Cpl. Joe Duncan, two men entered the store, locked the doors behind them, brandished a weapon and told the employee “we are taking all your gold.”

One of the robbers took the employee to the rear of the store while the second suspect loaded a black backpack with merchandise.

“The men then fled out the front door, through a parking lot and split up,” Duncan says. “(The first suspect) was subsequently tackled by four concerned citizens but the culprit got away and ran off.”

The second suspect was last seen getting into a blue-grey SUV and driving east on Cawston Ave.

“Police made extensive patrols in the area however the suspected miscreants were not located,” Duncan says.

The backpack was recovered and returned to the store employee.

The first suspect is described as being approximately 45 years old with a  scruffy face and thin build. He is around 6’1 and was wearing a dark blue hoodie and a baseball hat with the word “SWAT” written on it.

The second suspect is around 40 years old, with a darker complexion, a larger build and was wearing blue coveralls and a bright orange safety vest.
