KELOWNA - A big piece of the infrastructure needed to make movies is coming to the Okanagan.

Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland says Eagle Creek Studios out of Burnaby plans to build a full service purpose built soundstage in Kelowna.

Eagle Creek Studios — currently in production with the Amazon TV series and The Man from High Castle — purchased the property last year and intends to open the soundstage in 2017, according to a media release. Summerland does not say where in Kelowna the soundstage will be located.

He says the facility will help create the infrastructure needed to allow big movie productions and TV series to set up a base in the Okanagan, in addition to creating full time employment for a number of people.

"It will create full time employment for many people and will also create new businesses like prop shops, hair and make-up departments, for example," Summerland says in the release.
