VERNON - A broken water pipe continues to cause major traffic issues on a busy Vernon road.

A water main broke on 32 Street (Highway 97) near the intersection with 39 Avenue yesterday, Aug. 23, and has resulted in a traffic closure for northbound vehicles. As of Tuesday at 11 p.m., the City of Vernon reported water was expected to be restored to affected businesses that night.

That portion of the road isn't expected to be reopened until the end of the day on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Single lane traffic is in effect with the northbound lane completely closed.

“Please use an alternative route until the problem is repaired,” RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in a media release.

City crews will continue to repair the road throughout the day on Wednesday.
