A recent survey has found two-thirds of British Columbians believe Canadian Jews are being unfairly targeted because of rising antisemitism as a result of the Israeli Gaza war.

Results of the online survey conducted by Research Co. from June 8 to June 10, found that percentage has grown since a similar poll in February.

Almost seven out of 10 respondents also though dismantling campus protesters encampment was the way to go, according to a media release issued today, July 15.

The same percentage of those asked were "very concerned" or "moderately concerned" about attacks on synagogues, Jewish schools and businesses, protesters targeting Jewish neighbourhoods and Jewish-owned businesses.

“The perception of antisemitism as a significant issue does not vary greatly by political allegiance,” Research Col president Mario Canseco said in the release.

“Majorities of British Columbians who voted for the BC New Democratic Party (NDP) (84%), the BC Liberals (81%) and the BC Green Party (64%) in the 2020 provincial election are worried about prejudice rising against Jewish Canadians.”

The poll found only 41% of those surveyed think police and governments are doing enough to combat antisemitism. Roughly 36% of woman surveyed are particularly skeptical of the way the situation has evolved.

Results are based on an online study among 1,001 adults in Canada. The data has been statistically weighted according to Canadian census figures for age, gender and region. The margin of error, which measures sample variability, is +/- 3.1 percentage points, nineteen times out of twenty.
