KELOWNA - It can be tough to start a new business.
So, the Okanagan coLab is trying to help by hosting an event where five finalists will have their ideas given “blunt, honest (and maybe even a little soul-crushing) feedback” next week in Kelowna.
Called Startup Founder Hot Seat, the event kicked off with about a dozen people submitting their business pitches, which were limited to a mere 35 words. Out of that, five finalists were selected.
They won’t have much time to add to those pitches – there's only five minutes to have their say and five minutes for feedback.
“Lesson one of the startup world: If you can’t make them care within five minutes, you need to refine your idea until you can,” the coLab website states.
While in the hotseat, people need to be prepared to answer questions about what they’ve done with the idea so far, what do they need to do next and how to get there.
This is also a spectator sport so audience members are asked to register on the website.
This free event is Aug. 22 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the coLab on the corner of Doyle and St. Paul (No. 201 – 1405 St. Paul St.) in downtown Kelowna.
