KAMLOOPS – Police say extremely icy roads were a factor in yesterday's crash near Kamloops that sent four people to the hospital, one by air ambulance.
The crash closed Highway 1, west of Kamloops, at approximately 2 p.m. on Dec. 26, Staff Sgt. Doug Aird says in a media release.
Aird says a smaller Chevrolet car was eastbound when the driver lost control and crossed into the oncoming path of a westbound Ford truck. The impact happened between the truck's bumper and the passenger side door of the car.
The female driver of the car was trapped in the car until emergency crews arrived.
Highway 1 was closed in both directions for over an hour when the air ambulance landed to help the injured woman in the car.
The driver of the pickup and a passenger, along with a passenger who was riding in the car, were all taken to hospital by ground ambulance with minor injuries.
"Roads were extremely icy at the time of the collision and recommended speeds would have been under 80 kilometres per hour. Police are continuing to investigate and want to note several folks were instrumental in providing immediate medical attention including a doctor, an off duty nurse and several first aiders," Aird says in the release.
