Canadian boxers earn two bronze medals at Youth World Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two Canadian female boxers earned bronze medals on Tuesday while competing at the under-19 Youth World Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Zoe Courchesne of Quebec lost her semifinal bout in the 48kg class to Ruby White of England and finished third in her first YWC appearance.

Jarelyn Castillo of Ontario lost her semifinal bout in the 75kg class against Lenka Simon of Germany and finished third in her first YWC experience.

Julian Agelakis of B.C. lost his quarterfinal bout against Michael O’Sullivan from Wales. Agelakis finished tied for fifth in his YWC debut.

Canada’s coaching staff expressed pride in the athletes' performances.

National Team coach Samir El Mais beamed when asked about potential of the athletes: “They have trained hard and their perseverance is paying off.

"Each of them has now tested themselves on the world stage, and we’re eager to see how they use this experience in the future.”

Canada's strong overall team performance represents the first YWC medals since 2018 in Budapest, Hungary, where Charlie Cavanagh won gold in the women’s 66kg.
