With the sudden provincial election call today, the B.C. Liberal party finds itself without a candidate for the Boundary-Similkameen riding.

MLA Linda Larson said today, Sept. 21, in an emailed statement she would not be running again.

Larson was first elected in 2013.

“We have fixed election dates and we should have stayed with October, 2021. Perhaps a COVID-19 vaccine would be available by then,” the Liberal MLA said of the NDP's snap election call.

Larson says she has no say in who will succeed her as the candidate.

“Under normal circumstances we would have a nomination process and election by Boundary-Similkameen members. I understand the party is simply appointing a candidate to each riding,” Larson said.

Dan Ashton is the present Liberal candidate in the Penticton riding, where Summerland Mayor Toni Boot announced her candidacy for the B.C. NDP last week.
