B.C.’s COVID-19 curve has been on an upward trajectory in recent days and today the province is holding an unexpected press conference to discuss the latest in the pandemic.

In recent weeks, B.C.’s Health Minister and provincial health officer have had fewer COVID-19 press conferences than the pace set before the curve had flattened.

They’ve been held on Mondays and Thursdays but this morning, they announced a press conference would be held this afternoon to discuss the latest in the pandemic.

The province announced 30 new cases yesterday, July 22, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases in B.C. to 3,328. That is added to the 102 recorded over the weekend.

Of those new cases, there were 11 in the Interior Health region raising the total number to 291 in the Interior.

"Many of the new cases are a result of community transmission from an increase in social interactions this summer,” according to the statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix . “This trend is a concern, but we can turn this trend around.

The press conference will be held at 3 p.m.  and can be found on Facebook, on Twitter and on YouTube.
