Kamloops RCMP have reopened an Aberdeen street after confirming the suspicious package found last night was a pipe bomb.
An RCMP explosives disposal unit arrived from the Lower Mainland this morning, July 4, to deal with what police were calling a suspicious package found in the 900 block of Greystone Crescent.
“Earlier today, the RCMP Explosive Device Unit attended the area, examined the package and confirmed it was indeed a pipe bomb,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn of Kamloops RCMP said in a news release.
The improvised explosive device was found on the roadway and called in to the detachment around 7:35 p.m. yesterday. Officers found what appeared to be a homemade explosive once they got there and set up a perimeter to keep the public safe. No one was evacuated from the area.
The investigation into where the pipe bomb came from is ongoing now that it's been removed from the scene. Police are looking to the public for any information.
“Perhaps someone was walking by and looked like they dropped a bag or another item; maybe a vehicle was parked in the area that could be related – any information available that hasn’t already been provided could be helpful in furthering the investigation,” Cpl. Evelyn said.
