Body of 12-year-old girl who slipped off sandbar recovered in B.C. lake

PENTICTON, B.C. - A 12-year-old girl whose body was recovered from Skaha Lake near Penticton, B.C., has been identified.

The coroners service says she was Ida Holt-Scherer of the southern Cariboo community of 70 Mile House.

Holt-Scherer was vacationing in the Okanagan with her family when she and another girl were standing on a sandbar.

It gave way on Sunday afternoon.

The coroners service says the second girl was rescued by a passerby, but Holt-Scherer slipped away.

Searchers found her body on Tuesday, about 60 metres from where she was last seen.
