A swimmer drowned in Kamloops Lake last weekend as they tried to reach the dock at Tobiano.
Kamloops Search and Rescue crews were called to the lakeside community marina when the swimmer couldn't get back to the surface.
According to the volunteer group, first responders got to the scene within minutes of the drowning report on Saturday evening, Aug. 23. Search crews arrived shortly after and they searched the lake floor that night.
The search team, with help from Central Okanagan volunteers, found the deceased swimmer around 11 p.m. using an underwater drone, according to a Kamloops Search and Rescue social media post.
According to Kamloops Search and Rescue, an RCMP dive time recovered the body the next day. Kamloops RCMP provided few details in a Sunday news release, only announcing a drowning was being investigated.
The deceased swimmer has not been publicly identified. Their age and gender are not known.
"(Kamloops Search and Rescue) extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the individual during this difficult time. We recognize the profound sorrow and loss that comes with such a tragedy, and we want to express our deepest sympathy to all those affected. Our thoughts are with you as you navigate through this challenging period," the search and rescue organization's social media post reads.
