Body of woman who fell into river near Clearwater found

CLEARWATER - Police have confirmed a Regina woman who is believed to have fallen into Mad River near Clearwater has been found dead.

On May 11 just before 9 p.m., Clearwater RCMP received a report that a woman had just fallen into the river near Highway 5 north of Vavenby, and had been swept away in the fast-flowing current.

RCMP now say in a news release that officers were notified on June 13 that a body had been found in the North Thompson River in Barriere. The body has been identified as the missing woman, who police identified at the time as 31-year-old Kristi Lavallee.

In the original news release last month, police said Lavallee's boyfriend called 911 to report her fall into the river.

Police say there is no evidence any criminality was involved in her death, and the matter has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
