The remains of missing 20-year-old, Maddy Scott, who disappeared 12 years ago, have been discovered at a rural property outside Vanderhoof.

According to a BC RCMP media release, Scott's body was found at a rural property on the east side of Vanderhoof, 100 kms west of Prince George, and police are currently executing a search warrant almost 12 years to the day when she was last seen.

Scott attended a birthday party at Hogsback Lake, near Vanderhoof where she lived, May 28, 2011, and was last seen at around 3 that morning. She was reported missing the following day.

"This has been a priority investigation for the RCMP over the past 12 years. The discovery of Maddy is a significant development, however, this investigation remains an active and ongoing missing person investigation where foul play has not been ruled out," BC RCMP Corp. Madonna Saunderson said in the release.

Police say Scott's remains have been identified by the BC Coroners Service and her family has asked for privacy at this time.

No charges have been laid and police ask anyone with any information to call Tipline at 778-290-5291 or 877-543-4822.
