Body found near Penticton marina identified as missing kayaker

Police say the body that washed ashore near Okanagan Lake Marina on June 20, 2019, was that of missing kayaker Colin Palmer.

PENTICTON - A body that washed up on Okanagan Lake near the marina in Penticton has been identified.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release issued today, July 30, the body that washed ashore on July 20 around 8:30 a.m. was that of missing kayaker Colin Palmer of Penticton.

Palmer, 41, had been reported missing by his family on July 15, prompting a search of the lake.

He had last been reported encountering choppy water while kayaking near Sunoka Beach on July 13.

Emergency crews including RCMP, B.C. Emergency Health Services, the Penticton Fire Department and the B.C. Coroners Service attended the Okanagan Lake marina to assist in the recovery of the deceased on July 20.
