A body was found offshore in Kamloops this weekend near Riverside Park.

Kamloops RCMP was called to the area near the pickle ball courts around 2:20 p.m., Oct. 29, after the body was spotted 30 to 40 feet from the shore, according to a news release.

A forensic team used its drone to confirm, then contacted Kamloops Fire Rescue to retrieve the body.

“Based on the initial investigation, the person appears to have been in the water for some time,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, said in the release. “Police are working on confirming identification and contacting next of kin.”

Police and the B.C. Coroners Service are conducting concurrent investigations to determine the person's cause of death and whether criminality is suspected.

Anyone with information can contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2022-38930.
