The body of a man in his 30s was discovered in a home on Anderson Road in Kelowna Saturday night after firefighters responded to a nearby vehicle fire.

Ellison Fire Department fire chief David Bates said crew members were called at around 10 p.m., Feb. 22, to reports of a fire and sounds of explosions on Anderson Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found a mini-van and cargo trailer on fire, he said. The sounds of explosions were the van’s tires popping.

After firefighters extinguished the flames, a body was found in a house approximately 20 to 30 feet from the scene, Bates said. The inhabited building appeared to be charred but there was no fire reported inside.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating the circumstances that led to a man’s sudden death Saturday night in Kelowna.

The deceased has been identified as a Kelowna man in his mid 30s.

“At this time, criminality is not suspected in the man's death and the BC Coroners Service is also investigating,” Cpl. Stuart Smith of the Kelowna Regional Detachment said in a press release.

Due to the privacy of the deceased, his name will not be released. The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have no further information for release.
