Body found after house fire in Rutland

KELOWNA – RCMP say a dead body was found inside a home that caught fire in Rutland last night.

Firefighters were called to a two-alarm structure fire in the 1200 block of Gaggin Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. Nov. 20.

A media release from Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the investigation is still in the early stages but that a “deceased individual” was found inside.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and police are working to identify the deceased person.

“This investigation is in its very early stages,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. “Specially trained fire investigators with both the RCMP and Kelowna Fire Department, will be examining the scene alongside a representative of the BC Coroners Service.”
