Local gardeners from Armstrong to Kelowna, BC should be getting excited for a terrific growing season this summer—according to the experts. One of those local growing experts is Sheldon Brenneis, owner of Blue Mountain Nursery on 1871 Pleasant Valley Road in Armstrong. He says this spring has come early, and mild; fruit trees are already blooming, and the timing could not be better for planting.
This weather is a welcome change from last year when a harsh spring frost meant dismal fruit crops and tough growing throughout the Okanagan Valley. At Blue Mountain Nursery, this picture-perfect spring is great for Sheldon's business, but the main reason he is excited about the fabulous spring weather is that he loves helping his customers.
While controlling the weather is out of their hands, Blue Mountain Nursery has the rest of the variables sewn up tight—great prices, a massive inventory of annuals and perennials, loads of parking, and a fully covered area for clients to shop in.
"Our main clientele is home gardeners, and when the growing season looks promising, we’re happy to know they’ll enjoy thriving gardens," says Sheldon.

Blue Mountain Nursery starts much of its inventory from seeds. Seeing thousands of their carefully nurtured plants going out the door in ideal growing conditions is a massive reward for the Blue Mountain team.
Besides offering fully covered shopping, Blue Mountain Nursery is also wheelchair accessible.
The nursery team is headed up by Sheldon and his aunt Donna Brenneis. The family-run business in Armstrong, BC, has been a community-based enterprise for over 35 years, whose success is directly tied to the happiness of its clients. Customers travel from Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon and Revelstoke too. 2025 is the sixth season for Sheldon and Donna running the nursery, and they have experience to draw on in ensuring their clients are set up for success.
Growing Plants in the Valley, For the Valley
Setting up local gardeners for success is key to customers coming back—something Sheldon takes very seriously. The plants not started in-house come from reputable Canadian companies in the Lower Mainland. Sheldon and Donna's team carefully curates every shipment that arrives, to ensure their clients have access to the best possible plants.
Great Prices, Great Selection, and Helpful Staff
Because Sheldon and Donna live and garden in the Okanagan, they know what locals want. The nursery stocks trees, plants and shrubs designed for hot, dry summers, and customers concerned about wildfire safety. They carry a large inventory that is drought-tolerant and well-priced. "We care about the Okanagan environment, and that's why we know to stock chemical-free fertilizers and pesticides," says Sheldon.
“Our very competitive pricing comes from our ability to grow much of our inventory in-house and maintain low overhead costs,” Sheldon continues. “The Blue Mountain Nursery property is extensive, making room for dozens of vegetable varieties, hundreds of shrubs, trees, shade plants and countless flowering bedding plants.” All of this with a strong emphasis on the popular "Proven Winners" line, he tells us, something avid gardeners love.

Being a small business also means that shoppers can expect helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. "We are always happy to make time for clients who are new to gardening or who want to change up the way they are doing things," Sheldon says. The Blue Mountain team is proud to say they love gardening and can advise clients planning a successful garden.
