KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 4-0 on Friday night in game one of the 2017 WHL Playoffs at Prospera Place.

It took almost the full first period but the Rockets opened up the scoring 17:20 into the frame. Carsen Twarynski ripped home a wrist shot, erupting Prospera Place. Just 18 seconds later Tomas Soustal picked up a loose puck in front of Blazers netminder Connor Ingram and slid it past him to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead. They held that score into the second period.

The Rockets carried the momentum through the second period as Reid Gardiner scored on the power play at 12:40 to give Kelowna a three goal cushion. Shots were 31-12 in the Rockets' favour after 40 minutes.

The Rockets continued to be relentless putting all kinds of pressure on the Blazers. Carsen Twarynski twinkled twine for the second time in the evening, this time on the power play, and the Rockets controlled the game with a 4-0 score. That is the way the score would remain as the Rockets shutout the Blazers in game one.

Carsen Twarynski led the Rockets with two goals and an assist.

Michael Herringer stopped all 15 shots he faced as the Rockets widely outshot the Blazers 48-15.

Kelowna takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Kelowna and Kamloops are right back at it on Saturday night at Prospera. Game time 7:05pm. The series then shifts to Kamloops for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tickets are available for Rockets home games through selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
