Greek basketball cup final suspended after fan violence

ATHENS, Greece - The Greek basketball cup final between fierce rivals Olympiakos and Panathinaikos has been suspended after fan violence broke out on Sunday.

Violence erupted suddenly with seven minutes remaining in the second quarter and Panathinaikos leading 26-17. After an incident between two players, Olympiakos fans threw a large stone that injured Panathinaikos' Greek-American guard Mike Bramos in the hand. Panathinaikos fans reacted and riot police had to intervene, at one point using stun grenades.

Authorities had allowed only 900 fans from each team to attend the game in the 7,000-seat arena and placed them on opposite sides, separated by hundreds of riot policemen.

Authorities say the final will resume once the stands are evacuated.
