Fraud sentencing resumes for ex-NBA player Tate George

TRENTON, N.J. - Former NBA player and University of Connecticut star Tate George is back in a federal courtroom in New Jersey for sentencing.

George was convicted in 2013 on four wire fraud counts for running a real estate Ponzi scheme. Victims included current and former NBA players and celebrities.

Each fraud count carries a maximum 20-year sentence, but George is likely to face less time.

His sentencing hearing began in December and resumed Wednesday in Trenton. The judge is expected to pronounce the sentence on Thursday.

George, who played for New Jersey and Milwaukee in the NBA, has been jailed since his conviction. He's contesting how much money investors lost.

Prosecutors contend he persuaded people to invest in his company but used their money to pay off earlier investors.
