Bikes swiped in second break-in within two weeks in Kamloops

Suspects fled with multiple bikes after breaking into a window at a downtown Kamloops bike shop on June 19, 2023.

Kamloops RCMP were quick to the scene when a driver spotted people pulling bikes through a window at a downtown bike shop.

Police were at Spoke Bike and Ski around 4:15 a.m., June 19, but the thieves were gone by the time officers were at the scene, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

The driver who called in police saw the men trying to pull bikes out of the broken window, according to manager Brandon Froese.

Police initially collected one bike near the railway, but four bikes remain missing, Froese said.

It's the second break-in for the bike store within the last two weeks along a street regularly patrolled by City-contracted security.

Froese said he's seen police patrol the street in the days since the Monday break-in.

"I've never seen them walking the beat here before," Froese said.

Kamloops RCMP said it's still under investigation.
