BIG WHITE – Whether you drive a souped-up Subaru or a race-ready beater, the back roads around Big White mountain are being groomed for a bigger-than-ever Big White Winter Rally this December.

This is the 8th year the Big White Winter Rally which has brought hundreds of rally fans to the B.C. Interior. Alex Schubel is one of the founding organizers of the rally and has been involved since it started in 2009.

“We had a modest entry field to start out but it’s grown every year,” he says. “This year we’ve been invited to become the final round of the Canadian Rally Championships. That means more entries, a higher grade of competitors and more excitement for everyone involved.”

The time trials events start Saturday evening, Dec. 10 with additional classes running all day Sunday, Dec. 11. Schubel expects up to 50 drivers from across North America this year.

“It’s broken into sections with 12 special stages linked together with transit stages,” he says. “All on forestry roads around Big White.”

Spectators can watch from two designated spots, one with easy access where you can come and go as you like and another spot for those who want to stay for the entire race.

Anyone can register, but their vehicle must meet certain criteria available at this website.
