ENDERBY - Enderby got pretty wet on Friday.
The City of Enderby website reported that an Emergency Operations Centre Level One opened up on May 24 to respond to a long-lasting and intense storm that pummeled the community and overwhelmed the drainage systems.
Mud and debris covered and damaged multiple roads, pedestrian paths, and boulevards. Sanitary sewer lift stations and the sewer treatment plant were running on back-up power after they were hit with power outages.
Barnes Park near Vernon Street was partially flooded and it is expected to slowly drain. Several businesses and homes were impacted by the flooding, although no residential displacements were reported.
Clean-up and repair is planned to begin next week. Damages are being assessed and addressed on a hazard-priority basis.
