Best places to ring in the New Year in Kamloops, Okanagan

If you want to glam it up and raise a glass with family and friends on New Years Eve there are several exciting options near you, and here are just a few of them in Kamloops and the Okanagan. 

KAMLOOPS

For their carnival themed party, the Coast Hotel & Conference Centre is encouraging guests to dress up like strong man, mimes, lion tamers and bearded women at their annual New Years Eve event.The dinner buffet includes carnival food and delicious meals prepared by chefs at Uptown Chefs. Arcade games and a photo booth, a DJ and a cartoonist are just part of the entertainment for the evening.

The Delta Hotel is throwing a New Years Eve party starting at 7 p.m. with sparkling wine, hors d’oeuvres and a night of live music and dancing at a poolside lounge and bar.

The Colombo Lodge New Years Eve Dinner & Dance celebrates the special occasion with great food, wines and dancing and features music by Erik Boog.

KELOWNA

Kelowna is a perfect place to bring in a new year, with parties and dinners happening in venues all over town, including a big one for the whole family. 

Kelowna’s annual tradition of the Valley First New York New Years celebration is returning to Stuart Park for their ninth year, after a two-year COVID hiatus.The free event is made for families and runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring outdoor activities including skating on an ice rink, carnival games and activities in the “Kid’s Snow Zone,” free glow sticks and goodies.

"After cancellation in 2020 and an ‘almost’ event in 2021, we are stoked to be holding this community party again,” said executive director of Festivals Kelowna Renata Mills in a media release. “As we did before those crazy two years of the pandemic, this all-ages New Year’s Eve celebration will offer our community a fun way to gather and welcome a new year full of possibility.”

Food trucks will be onsite serving warm beverages and hot food, along with a face painting and photo booth. There will be live musical performances by Kelowna’s Sad Tom and The Noodles, ¾ Crush, DJ Hotel Zero and Vernon’s Lindsay May and the Mayhem. Mayor Tom Dyas will do a countdown to ring in an early New Year and fireworks will be shot from the North West point in City Park, visible along the waterfront from the The Sails to the Kelowna Yacht Club.

Craft Beer Market Kelowna is hosting Let’s Get Fizzy: New Years Eve 2023, where guests will “pop, clink and fizz” their way into the New Year. This party includes a four-course dinner, a live DJ and a countdown dance party and has a featured, bubbly cocktail called French 75.

DunnEnzies in the Mission is bringing the New Year with Okanagan band HOT SAX playing “music for you to shake your booty into 2023 with.” The party theme is Apres Ski and guests are encouraged to dress up for it. There are drink specials on all night and a midnight toast and lots of music and dancing.

Train Wreck Comedy is offering two great shows for those looking for laughs, one at the Kelowna Curling Club downtown and one at Freddy’s Brewpub in Rutland. The show at the curling club will feature comedian Erica Sigurdson, a two-time Leo Award winner for comedy writing and an award-winning stand-up comedian. Freddy’s Brewpub will be featuring Byron Bertram, who has shared the stage with Zach Galifinakis, Flight of the Concords and Eddie Izzard and was a hit with the judges on Britain’s Got Talent.

Champaign, live music, dinners and more are being offered at several venues in Kelowna.

PENTICTON

There are at least three breweries hosting parties with live music performances, dancing and featured cocktails in Penticton this New Years Eve.

Okanagan band Don’t Speak is will be entertaining party goers at the Barley Mill Brew Pub, while The Hip Replacements are performing at Slackwater Brewing.

Cannery Brewing is celebrating east coast style, offering Halifax style donairs, fresh shucked oysters, delicious craft beer and local bubbles, while band Kuja Collective will play east coast style music.

VERNON

Elks Hall Vernon is hosting a Glitter & Gold Happy New Year Bash, featuring music by the Rockin’ Horse Band, with late night appies and midnight bubbly to sweeten the celebration.

The Vernon Jazz Club is hosting its celebration with live music by Sherman Doucette’s Blues Quartet.

There is no shortage of places to party and celebrate the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one in Kamloops and the Okanagan this New Years Eve.
