The Penticton Vees Jr. A Hockey Club has signed 1998-born defenceman Greg Brydon, the team announced Tuesday.

“He’s a big kid who has a great work ethic,” said President, General Manager and Head Coach Fred Harbinson. “He’s got experience at this level and we’re very familiar with him, as he was an affiliate for us in the past two seasons and attended a couple of our camps.”

Brydon, 18, started the season with the Powell River Kings, playing in 18 games, picking up one assist to go along with 23 penalty-minutes. The Penticton native was briefly with the Campbell River Storm of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League before landing in Penticton, and picked up a goal in his Storm debut over the weekend.

Prior to breaking into the BCHL, Brydon spent the past three years at the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) next door. Last season, the 6’1, 190-pound rear-guard picked up four goals and 14 points in 23 games with the OHA Prep Red team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

In a corresponding move, the Vees have played defenceman Gabe Bast (96) on the Injured Reserve. Bast had a goal and two points this season as injuries limited him to just six games.

Brydon, who will wear number 43, will make his Vees debut tomorrow night when his hometown team hosts the Vernon Vipers at the SOEC; puck drop is 7 PM. It’s another “Wicked Wednesday,” as tickets are only $5 for adults and seniors, and students (18 and under) and children are FREE, courtesy of Peter Bros. Construction.
