MONTREAL - Women are a virtually untapped market for North American brewers and could help them grow with sales of low-calorie, lighter-flavoured, beer-based beverages.
A new report from Bank of Montreal says traditional brewers face more and more competition from wine and craft brewers.
BMO says consumption of beer per person also remains flat in Canada and has fallen in the United States..
The report says men currently account for about 80 per cent of beer sales and suggests products geared to women may offer the industry growth opportunities.
It says there's also room for growth by catering beer products to an aging population.
