KELOWNA – RCMP say a woman bear sprayed a Kelowna Best Buy employee before stealing a drone worth almost $2,000 yesterday.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release the suspect is a Caucasian woman in her 30s who entered the electronics store in Orchard Park Shopping Mall at about 4:10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7.

An employee and a security guard confronted the woman when she left the store with the $1,800 drone.

The woman, who is between 5’6" and 5’8" with black hair and wearing a grey jacket, black sweater, black pants and white shoes, bear sprayed the employee before fleeing on foot south on Dilworth Drive, he says.

“An area of containment was established as a police service dog was called to the scene to conduct a search for the woman, who left behind the stolen drone and the spent canister of bear spray,” O’Donaghey says in the release. “The K9 unit was unable to locate the suspect.”

Police have released a photo of the suspect taken from a security camera in the hopes that someone can help identify her.
