B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating a Penticton incident that left one man injured.

Penticton RCMP were called to a report of an intoxicated man in the yard of a residence in the 90 block of Okanagan Avenue East at around 7:10 p.m., Sept. 21, B.C. RCMP said.

"When police arrived and located the man, he was reportedly unable to care for himself. The man was arrested and transported to RCMP detachment cells," the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said in a release.

"The following morning around 3:45 a.m., it was reported that the man fell from a sitting position and appeared to be in medical distress. Emergency Health Services attended and the man was transported to hospital where he was found to be suffering serious injuries," the release reads.

The independent investigations office is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the investigations office, no further information will be released by police.

The investigations office is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the arrest of the man to contact the Witness Line toll free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. website here.
