KELOWNA — Some residents in B.C.'s Okanagan Valley who were ordered out of their homes on Thursday due to a wildfire have been allowed back home.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations says an evacuation order issued for the Peachland area, near Kelowna, has been downgraded to an alert for some properties.

The initial order covered 325 addresses in the area but officials say favourable conditions allowed the return of some residents, who must remain ready to leave again on short notice.

The Munro Lake wildfire is estimated to be just over two square kilometres in size.

Officials say emergency responders were to patrol the fire overnight and resume firefighting efforts in the morning.

There are about 112 active wildfires burning across the province.
