A Vancouver Island Resident just won $18 million from the Lotto Max Jackpot.

Ucluelet's Sharon Fraser was having breakfast when she checked her PlayNow.com account to view the results of the Lotto Max draw when she found out she won the $18 million jackpot, according to a Mar. 12 news release.

“I was at my breakfast table with my husband and son,” Fraser said in the release. “Every Saturday morning, I check the (Lotto Max) results. I thought it was a free play and said, ‘they’ve made a mistake.’ I called customer support and they verified everything!”

She first shared the news with her husband and children who she says were in disbelief.

The BC Lottery Corporation awarded her the prize today during a celebration in its Vancouver office.

The prize winner has made plans to buy a property and a new car. As an avid sailor she also hopes to sail to new destinations in the South.

“Exciting! We don’t have to worry – we’re retirees. It’s also going to provide security for my children,” Fraser said when asked how it feels to win.

This year, players have won more than $34 million from Lotto Max, a nationwide lottery game. Tickets can be purchased at lottery retailers or online at PlayNow.com.
