It was a restless night for a Prince Rupert woman after she learned she won $5.8 million in a Lotto 6/49 draw earlier this month.
Juanita Parnell of Prince Rupert split the $11 million jackpot on the Oct. 6 draw with a ticket bought in Ontario, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release.
“I’m pretty sure it was 3:30 in the morning and I was still awake. My daughter had called me earlier and said that someone in Prince Rupert had won the jackpot,” Parnell said in the release. “She had found out on Facebook, apparently everyone in Prince Rupert had found out.”
She almost didn't buy the winning ticket. She had forgotten to get one and rushed to get a ticket before sales closed for the draw.
She won with the same set of numbers she has been playing for 20 years.
Parnell is considering taking her grandchildren on a vacation with some of the winnings.
“I’d like to take them to Disney World in Florida,” Parnell said. “We’ve never been able to go on a vacation together all at once.”
