A new wildfire located to the north of Highway 97C has grown to two hectares already this afternoon.

The B.C. Wildfire Service responded to the new wildfire this afternoon, Aug. 5, located roughly four kilometres west of West Kelowna's boundary and northwest of Peachland.

The Mount Miller fire was initially reported at one hectare, but according to the B.C. Wildfire Service's latest update this afternoon it is now two hectares.

"There are six personnel responding, three helicopters and an air tanker on route and no structures are being threatened at this time," said wildfire information officer Charlene Mortensen.

Area residents began reporting smoke in the area this afternoon, at roughly 3 p.m.

The fire is suspected to be caused by lightning.
