B.C. Wildfire responding to fire along Highway 1 near Kamloops

A wildfire west of Kamloops was discovered along Highway 1, Aug. 1, 2022.

The B.C. Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire along Highway 1 this afternoon, roughly 7.5 kilometres west of Kamloops.

The wildfire is currently estimated to be one hectare in size and burning adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway.

Wildfire ground personnel and a helicopter are on site and air tankers are en route, according to the wildfire service's latest post.

Kamloops Fire Rescue and New Afton Fire Services are assisting wildfire crews.

Social media posts show a vehicle burning along the side of the highway. DriveB.C. is warning of traffic delays due to the vehicle fire.

This wildfire will be highly visible to Highway 1, Highway 5 the Coquihalla, Kamloops and surrounding areas, according to the service.
