OLIVER - B.C. Wildfire personnel are keeping busy ahead of fire season by providing assistance to flood afflicted areas of the South Okanagan this week.

The Province of B.C. has provided assistance to the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen in the form of 50 firefighters who are working in the Willowbrook and Sportsmens Bowl Road areas north of Oliver.

The two areas have been hard hit by high water and are currently under a state of local emergency.

B.C. Wildfire firefighters are working to strengthen sandbag defences in addition to build sandbag reserves, according to a regional district media release.

The regional district says the extra manpower will be invaluable as the spring freshet approaches.

For the latest information on flooding in the regional district, see the district website here.
